Caroline Kennedy interested in Hillary’s NY Senate seat

In Caroline Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, New York Senate Seat on December 5, 2008 at 7:29 pm

WASHINGTON — Caroline Kennedy has spoken to New York Gov. David Paterson about the Senate seat that will come open when Hillary Rodham Clinton becomes secretary of state, according to a person familiar with the conversation.
Kennedy HarvardKennedy reached out to the governor to discuss the Senate seat, according to the Democratic source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the conversation was private. The source would not disclose the details of the conversation.

The governor has said he is in no rush to make a decision, and Clinton is not giving up the seat before she is confirmed as President-elect Barack Obama’s secretary of state.

Good girl, Hillary. Hold those cards close to your vest! Who in the world can trust Obama?

“The governor has not yet reached out to any potential candidates,” said Paterson’s spokesman, Errol Cockfield. “He has been approached by several candidates. Any discussions related to that selection are private and the governor will not comment about speculation before a decision is made.”

Word of the conversation comes days after Kennedy’s cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., announced he was not interested in the job — a move that sidesteps any messy interfamily competition.

I’ve always liked Carol Maloney and her last name as well. She is a horse show judge on weekends during the show season. I’ve seen her often at Rosetta’s on the South Shore. She usually judges the short stirrup kids. I don’t think she stands a chance against Caroline though…

  1. Yup, news reports indicate the Kennedys are pulling every string and stop they know to ensure Senator Clinton’s seat for Caroline..

Jackie must be spinning in her grave!

“Powerful senator and family patriarch Ted Kennedy has been working back channels to promote niece Caroline as the replacement for Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Senate, family sources told The Post.

The elder Kennedy (D-Mass.), who’s battling brain cancer, has sent word to Gov. Paterson’s office that Caroline Kennedy, 51, has contacts and family connections that would mean legislation affecting New York would receive prompt attention, family sources said.

    UPDATE 6pm EST

AP is now reporting that Caroline Kennedy approached New York Governor Paterson about taking over Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat. Earlier reports said she had talked to the Governor, but did not indicate her interest in the seat.

  2. @Sage
It is insulting – and not even for the Obama support. She has done nothing in her life to qualify her for the job, other than have a famous last name. Kinda like W. I thought B0bots were against dynasties. This NY-er will never vote for the airhead.

  3. Oh, for the deal making that goes on behind closed doors..

I think, Bobby had first dibs on the Senate seat, seeing it was previously RFKs. Then he was offered Head of the EPA. I don’t think they felt the two posts were interchangeable for Bobby and/or Caroline.

And that most likely it was a strategic family decision where more Kennedys could reside in higher places done the way it had been preordained.

Seeing the senate seat is a Gov apt. I doubt if Carol Maloney stands a snowballs chance in hell… petition or no.. the pressure on Patterson would be too enormous to overcome.

But then again, we can try…nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I ckd in to WWB… quite big goins on at your site…hmmm!

  4. Caroline Kennedy…isn’t that rather insulting to give her Hillary’s seat given her support for Obama early on?
